338 Buddha: A mix of styles – Influences

The style of this Chinese sculpture was influenced by Buddhist sculptures of the ancient region of Gandhara. Scholars theorize that the models for such pieces were small examples actually carried across the Silk Road. Another source of inspiration was the Buddhist texts and translations that were brought into China.
