Since the lion-headed demoness could not be defeated by any other opponent, the Buddhas devised an ingenious strategy to overcome her. The peaceful Buddhas concluded that the only way to tame Simhavaktra was by creating an identical being to oppose her.
So the Buddhas of all the directions then focused their minds in order magically to create a living replica of the Lion-faced demoness. Named Simhavaktra Dakini, or the Lion-Faced Sky-Walker, she was a mirror-image of the lion-faced demoness who had been terrifying the earth to death. But unlike the demoness, Simhavaktra was an enlightened being. As such, she was able to show the demoness the error of her ways. Thenceforth, the Lion-faced demoness protected Buddhist teachings against all opponents.
